Disappointment

There's no sadness like the sadness of waking up on Thanksgiving morning to discover there isn't a turkey- and stuffing-filled stocking hanging near the chimney.

On the plus side, I don't have a sudden surplus of coal, either.

No turkey!

It's the evil republicans! It all about the haves and the have nots. My family demanded two turkeys this year because one is not enough. Sorry. We ate our allotment and yours too.

Maybe this isn't the right place to ask, but how is it possible for you to wake up and there be no turkey?

Also, on a closer reading, what does it mean to have "a turkey- and stuffing-filled stocking near the chimney", and why would it's lack disappoint you? If I found something even vaguely like that at my house, I'd look for a horse's head in the bed next!
